You don’t need a big budget, a transformation plan or a team of data scientists to start using AI in HR. You just need a real problem to solve – and the curiosity to test one small idea.
Here are five ways you can make AI useful right now – even if you’re not a techie.
1. Rewrite a policy
Take something like your bereavement or expenses policy. Paste it into ChatGPT and ask:
- Where does this sound cold, confusing or untrusting?
- Rewrite it to sound more human, helpful and clear.
- Do we even need this policy – or is a principle enough?
2. Create a better hiring experience
List the top 10 questions candidates ask. Use AI to answer them in your tone – short, friendly, human. Want to go further? Build a DIY chatbot (no code needed) to do it for you.
3. Grow leaders through simple nudges
Use AI to create leadership nudges linked to your values. Example: “This week, ask one team member: ‘What’s the biggest blocker slowing you down right now?’.”
One nudge a week. Simple, effective.
4. Turn feedback into insight
Copy and paste open-ended survey comments into ChatGPT. Ask for the top 3 themes in plain English. Saves hours. Gives you something usable.
5. Empower career conversations
Give employees a simple set of prompts they can drop into AI tools to explore their future. For example:
“Act like a career coach. Ask me a series of thoughtful questions to help me discover my career ambitions, strengths, and ideal next steps. Ask one question at a time and adjust based on my answers.”
This way, people can explore ideas quickly, get personalised suggestions, and take more ownership of their career growth.

Pick something low-risk. Try it. Share what you learn.
